Mr. Edwardo Cantu, Mariachi Music Director
1997 Graduate of Judson HS, Converse TX, 2007 Graduate of University of North Texas,

 Denton, TX - Bachelor of Music, 1997 to 2005 Army Reserve Veteran, One tour in Iraq.

GOALS

 1.         To learn teamwork, commitment, self-discipline, dependability and respect, not only for the mariachi program, but for future life endeavors

2.         To learn basic music theory in order to read and better understand music

3.         To prepare for a collegiate level ensemble

4.         To learn and appreciate music of all styles

5.         To meet our potential as a mariachi

6.         To challenge stereotypical beliefs that lessen the beautiful culture of mariachi

 

RULES

1.         DON’T TALK WHEN THE TEACHER IS TALKING

2.         EVERYONE PLAYS EVERY DAY

 

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

 1.         Be Respectful - Treat teachers and other students with respect; treat music, musical equipment and traje with care. Respect the Harlandale MS facilities.

2.         Be safe - Keep, gum, food, horseplay etc. out of the mariachi room.

3.         Be on time - All students are expected to be in class before the bell rings. Students who do not adhere to this will be counted tardy.

4.         Communicate - Have good communication with your teachers, coaches, parents, and myself.

5.         Be prepared - Have your instrument every day for class. This includes any additional materials needed for you to have full participation; have violin bows and rosin, extra strings and picks, sheet music/music theory sheets, valve oil/slide grease, AND A PENCIL (NEVER PEN).

6.         Participate - Students are expected to fully participate in all activities planned for the class on each given day. This includes singing and occasionally completing worksheets.

            There will also be required performances outside of the classroom setting for all students.
