Education

I received a Bachelor of Science in Art, and minored in Western Art History at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, where I also ran Cross Country and Track.

I also attended and  ran at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.

Experience

I have been teaching children and adults how to be creative for about seventeen years, with the last nine at Harlandale Middle School. In the summer, I teach art at schools in the city, in addition to making art on my own. My artwork includes soft sculpture (sewing), painting, drawing, found art sculpture...sometimes all at once! I am excited to share my interest in art with my students, and to help them discover their own creativity.

Bio

This is my 9th year as a full time Art Teacher at Harlandale Middle School. Before, I taught part time through a number of public and private school art programs, including the Circle School, the Discovery School, San Antonio Academy, the SA Zoo's Summer Program and the Southwest School of Art. Although I am no longer in the Mobile Arts Program at SSA, I still teach a few classes there every summer. I also find time to work on my own art projects, and participate in many art and craft sales throughout San Antonio.

I live with my family in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, since moving from Portland, Oregon eighteen years ago.

Assignments will be listed on the calendar as they come up. Also check the bulletin board in the classroom.

Projects are assigned every week or two. Please see me if you need to adjust yours.

Class Schedule is different every day. Check the red framed board as you enter the classroom.

Announcements:
We will be participating in a citywide Art Show in March...more information to come!

HISD District Art Show, and the Cultural Arts Festival will be in April! Stay tuned, and get creative! I want as many artists to be involved as possible (even if you're not in Art Class)!

Supply List

Pencil and eraser every day!

Students are free to use their own markers and map/colored pencils if they prefer, or they can borrow from the classroom.

Art Journal

** I accept CLEAN recyclables: newspapers (which I can really use, since the school does not receive a daily paper anymore), plastic containers, coffee and oatmeal boxes, cereal-type cardboard boxes.

Class Activities: Art Journals, tangles, found art sculptures, paintings... what won't we do? I try to mix it up so we have a multitude of different media to work with as we explore and learn.

Forms are available in the Art Room in the 'Past Assignments' file. I will have some to download soon to come.
